Our group of  Tohoku University has contributed development and operation of Japanese scientific space missions since 1970s. Roles of our group to an individual mission are scientific research, mission operation, and development of an individual scientific instrument.

We developed space-borne instruments as joint project with JAXA international collaborations, such as an auroral satellite Reimei, Moon orbiter Kaguya, Venus orbiter Akatsuki, planetary telescope Hisaki, geospace satellite Arase, IMAP/VISI on the international space station the international space station. We are currently carrying out on-going space craft missions, like a Mars moon sample return exploration (MMX) and ESA’s Jupiter mission (JUICE) which will be launched in 2020s.

Graduate students of our group have opportunity to join scientific research related to these missions. They also have chances to contribute development and operation of scientific instruments.
